“Multiple people” could be charged in connection with the overdose death of Friends star Matthew Perry, according to People. A law enforcement source told the celebrity news source that the investigation is “nearing its conclusion.” The source said the US Attorney’s Office will decide whether to press charges.
As Emily’s Hope previously reported, the 54-year-old actor died at his house in Los Angeles in October 2023. An autopsy revealed Perry died from acute effects of ketamine, with other contributing factors including drowning, coronary artery disease, and buprenorphine effects.
Perry wrote a 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” where he detailed his decades-long struggle with substance use disorder. Perry wrote that his battle with alcohol addiction began at age 14 when he drank for the first time.
“Drinkers think they are trying to escape, but really they are trying to overcome a mental disorder they didn’t know they had,” Perry wrote.
Perry also fell into opiate addiction when he was just 26 after doctors prescribed him Vicodin for an injury he sustained while filming “Fools Rush In.”
