TUCSON, Ariz. – Customs and Border Protection officers have made the largest singular fentanyl seizure in the agency’s history. At the Port of Lukeville in Arizona, officers confiscated approximately 4 million blue fentanyl pills, weighing more than 1,000 pounds.
According to a CBP press release, on July 1, 2023, a 20-year-old Arizona man, who is a U.S. citizen, was driving a pick-up truck hauling a sport recreational vehicle on a utility trailer. During inspection, officers noticed some anomalies in the trailer’s frame. With the help of a CBP canine team, officers discovered more than 230 packages of drugs hidden within the frame.
“This is an enormous amount of dangerous drugs that officers at the Port of Lukeville prevented from reaching communities throughout the United States,” Guadalupe Ramirez, Director of Field Operations, Tucson Field Office, said.
Just days later, officers at the same port of entry seized around 270 pounds of methamphetamine.
The estimated street value for these two seizures is more than $12.6 million.
