Country star checks into rehab after poor National Anthem performance

Country singer Ingrid Andress posted on social media that she’s checking herself into a rehab facility after a poor National Anthem performance at Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby.

“I was drunk last night,” Ingrid wrote on Instagram. “That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition.”

Alcohol use and misuse among women is increasing, according to research by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Researchers have found that the rate of women ages 35 to 50 having five or more drinks in a row rose twice as fast as men over the last decade.

“Women are starting to pick up the pace and drink like men. I think there is an erroneous assumption that wine is fine no matter how much you’re drinking,” Dr. Jessica Mellinger, a liver specialist, said on an episode of Grieving out Loud.

Mellinger has witnessed a 60% increase in waitlisting and transplants for patients with alcoholic hepatitis.

“I think we have views of what a person with an alcohol problem looks like, and it’s not a woman with a glass of wine. It can be easier to overlook when that one glass of wine turns into two turns into a bottle or a couple of bottles,” Mellinger said.
