Rapid City man convicted of distributing fentanyl, resulting in death

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A 39-year-old Rapid City man has been convicted of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death. Curtis Cummings was part of a large-scale fentanyl distribution ring in the Rapid City area from Dec. 2021 to June 2023.

During that time, he and others traveled to Colorado every week to obtain significant amounts of fentanyl pills. He then distributed the pills from his home, including trafficking them to a person in April 2022 who ended up dying from an overdose.

Cummings is scheduled to be sentenced in Jan. 2025. He faces a mandatory minimum of 20 years up to life in prison and/or a $10,000,000 fine, five years up to life of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
