Rapper Rich Homie Quan Died from Accidental Drug Overdose, medical examiner confirms

ATLANTA – Rapper Rich Homie Quan, known for his chart-topping hits “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” died at age 33 due to an accidental drug overdose. According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner, the artist, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died from the “combined toxic effects of fentanyl, alprazolam, codeine, and promethazine.”

A 911 call obtained by TMZ reveals that on September 5, Quan’s girlfriend told the dispatcher that she found the rapper not breathing and without a heartbeat.

Quan had previously spoken openly about his struggles with drug use. During an episode of the hip-hop podcast “My Expert Opinion,” he admitted to using drugs heavily after his 2013 breakout single “Type of Way.”

“I was on Molly every day. Geeked up,” he said. “I feel like I couldn’t do a show or a song without being on Molly.”

Just last week Emily’s Hope reported that another artist, Seth Binzer, better known as Shifty Shellshock, the cofounder of rap rock band Crazy Town, died from an accidental drug overdose. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that the “Butterfly” singer passed away due to the combined effects of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
