SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – A Sioux Falls man who investigators believe was responsible for trafficking over 13,000 fentanyl pills in and around the city has been sentenced to federal prison.

Elizeo Kalimba, 33, was sentenced to 19 years and seven months for conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Kalimba worked with another person to obtain thousands of fentanyl pills from Arizona, which were then distributed in Sioux Falls.

Authorities with the Sioux Falls Police Department used a confidential informant to conduct two controlled purchases of fentanyl pills from Kalimba. Investigators later executed a search warrant at his home, where they found approximately 3,900 pills.

Kalimba was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2024 and was convicted following a jury trial in October 2025.

Court records also show Kalimba is required to register as a sex offender following a 2014 conviction for first-degree rape involving a 12-year-old girl.
