Attorneys General collaborating to combat shipping fentanyl

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – South Dakota is joining the request to put a stop to an importing loophole that has been used by drug traffickers.

An importing pilot program called Type 86 allows packages with less than $800 in declared value to receive minimal customs screening.

Founder of the fentanyl awareness organization Emily’s Hope, Angela Kennecke, believes the request to consider Type 86 is a good thing.

“Well, certainly we support any efforts to end the poison coming into this country. We know that fentanyl is pouring into this country, oftentimes, through the mail, through packages on ships and on planes. And closing this loophole would really help monitor that better and help catch it more,” Kennecke said.
