Emily’s Hope expands Post-Overdose Response Team to Brookings County

Emily’s Hope will be expanding its Post-Overdose Response Team into Brookings County.

“Earlier in my career, we freely prescribed opioids with good intentions, before we understood the risks. Seeing the unintended harm to patients is why I’m committed to caring for them more safely today, and I am excited to partner with Emily’s Hope to do this important work,” said Karen Weber, Brookings Health System Emergency Department Director.

PORT connects trained Peer Support Specialists with public health and safety partners to reach out to overdose survivors and provide non-judgmental support, guidance, and tailored resources in hospitals, homes, or communities.

Services include free naloxone training, help connecting to treatment, assistance with medication for opioid use disorder refills, and follow-up for up to one year.
