Emily’s Hope Youth Prevention Coalition is hosting a free screening and panel of the Emmy-winning documentary Can’t Look Away- The Case Against Social Media, on March 2, 2026.
The documentary highlights the Social Media Victims Law Center’s efforts to hold tech companies accountable for online harm, particularly the risks young people face, such as fentanyl poisoning from counterfeit pills sold on social media.
After the screening, there will be a panel discussion featuring Amy Neville, President of the Alexander Neville Foundation, who advocates for online protections following her son’s fentanyl-related death via social media, and Laura Marquez-Garrett, an attorney with the Social Media Victims Law Center, specializing in social media-related litigation.
Dr. Wallace Jackmon, a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Social Worker with over 25 years of experience in child welfare, mental health, family systems, and adolescent treatment, will discuss his research on the link between smartphone apps and increased anxiety and depression risk for over a decade.
Award-winning journalist and founder of Emily’s Hope, Angela Kennecke, will also be featured in the discussion.
“We are incredibly honored to welcome Amy Neville and Laura Marquez-Garrett to Sioux Falls. Amy’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of how the dangers facing young people today often begin online, while Laura’s work highlights the growing legal and societal reckoning around social media-related harms,” said Angela Kennecke.
