Emily’s Hope hosts ‘Save a Life Day’

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Sioux Falls Downtown Library is hosting ‘Save a Life Day’ from Emily’s Hope on Thursday.

The event runs from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Attendees can get free doses of naloxone, a life-saving medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose.

“One of the reasons I’m so personally committed to this is because my daughter died but she didn’t have to die. She died alone, in her room,” Angela Kennecke, Founder and CEO of Emily’s Hope, said. “Most overdoses happen in residences. There was no one there to administer naloxone. So, I really want naloxone to be everywhere in her honor.”

Emily’s Hope isn’t the only group giving to the community today, though.

“We know that, when people face barriers, they face multiple ones at the same time. Hunger is often one of those, so we’re out here. We have sack lunches for people, we have cookies,” Pam Cole, Executive Director of Bread Break, said.
