How to dispose of your old medications on Saturday in Sioux Falls

If you have any old or unwanted medications in your home, this weekend is a good time to get rid of them.

The nonprofit Emily’s Hope is partnering with Lewis stores for “Drug Take Back Day” tomorrow. This community-wide initiative offers a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications. All you have to do is gather the medications you no longer want and drop them off at any Lewis store in Sioux Falls.

“It’s a really good idea just to keep it out of the hands of anybody who doesn’t need it. You don’t need it any longer and its probably not as effective as it used to be,” said Emily’s Hope Founder Angela Kennecke.

The Lewis Dry Store at Madison Street and Veterans parkway is one of the stores taking part. Once inside, just look for the pharmacy center and a green box.

“If you’ve got medications, old expired medications you are not using, something that you started but you didn’t need to finish, any Lewis Drug in town, you come over to the pharmacy at all of our stores we are gong to have one of these med boxes right here,” said Pharmascist Ben Ostebee. “All you do is you come right up you open it up, you can drop all of your meds right in this little bin here and just close it up. The only things that won’t go in here would be like any injectable medication and non prescriptions medications, anything that is like a device”.

The founder of Emily’s Hope says it’s important to get expired and unused medications out of your home, especially if you have children around.
