Matthew Thompson was raised in rural South Dakota before joining the Marine Corps in 1995. In 2021, he started to experience a mental health breakdown and his own struggle with opioids (oxycodone and hydrocodone) following two shoulder surgeries, a divorce, a transition from the military, and suicidal thoughts. Through his work volunteering and his own recovery, he developed a close relationship working with those unhoused and struggling with their own demons/addictions.  He is currently working full-time in this field, is engaged to a wonderful woman, and is living the best life possible.  He credits all this to his faith and to those who were there for him when he was at his lowest. He now wants to be there for others at theirs.
