Emily’s Hope Partners with Lewis Drug for DEA National Drug Take Back Day

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.  – Friday, April 24th, 2026  – Emily’s Hope is partnering with Lewis Drug to host DEA National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, 2026. This community-wide initiative offers a safe, convenient, and responsible way for individuals to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications while helping prevent misuse and protect the environment.

Community members are encouraged to visit any Lewis Drug location in Sioux Falls to drop off medications with no questions asked. Proper disposal helps reduce access to medications that could otherwise be misused and lowers the risk of accidental overdose.

In addition to medication disposal, Emily’s Hope will be on-site, providing free naloxone kits, drug disposal kits, and educational resources focused on substance use prevention, overdose awareness, and pathways to treatment and recovery.

“Drug Take Back Day is a simple but powerful way for our community to take action,” said Angela Kennecke, founder and president of Emily’s Hope. “By safely disposing of unused medications and increasing access to naloxone, we are helping prevent misuse and giving people the tools they need to save lives.”

Participating Sioux Falls locations include:

  • Lewis Drug – 2901 S Minnesota Ave.
  • Lewis Drug – 2700 W 12th St.
  • Lewis Drug – 1301 E 10th St.

Events like this are an important part of preventing medication misuse, protecting families, and supporting the health and safety of the communities we serve,” said Jessica Strobl, Vice President of Pharmacy for Lewis Drug.

For those unable to attend on April 25, Lewis Drug offers year-round medication disposal options, making it easy for community members to keep their homes safe and reduce the risk of misuse or overdose.

Together, this partnership reflects a shared commitment to prevention, education, and saving lives across the Sioux Falls community.
