A Sioux Falls-based recovery support program is expanding its reach to Brown County to connect overdose survivors with resources and peer support.
Emily’s Hope will begin offering its post-overdose response team services in the Aberdeen area, partnering with local organizations to build a network of peer support specialists who live in the community. The expansion marks the eighth South Dakota county served by the program.
“We create a team of local peer support specialists that live in the Aberdeen area that are ready to go and respond to an overdose,” program manager Diana Leal told KELOLAND News.
The nonprofit’s post-overdose response team, known as PORT, connects directly with individuals who survive an overdose, often in hospital or emergency room settings, and provides ongoing support tailored to each person’s recovery.
